Nemesis 99 Champions!

The 99 FCSC Nemesis have played in 2 U11 tournaments this year. The UNITED CUP and   Cascade Cup. The played tough competition; Kaiser, Eugene, and THUSC, were all obstacles on the way to the FINALS. Each of these teams in the past have given us trouble.

The Nemesis defense blanked every team. In the United Cup they beat Kaiser twice, once in round robin play 1-0 and then again in the FINALS 2-0 to claim the Championship.

Two weeks later in the Cascade Cup they played THUSC who was seeking revenge from a lost in the SEMIFINALs of the UNITED CUP 1-0. FCSC dominated the round robin game 1-0. When they met again in the FINALS, FCSC  jumped on top 1-0 in the first five minutes of the game, then scored as they came out of half time to beat THUSC for the 3rd straight time. Final score was 2-0 and the 99 Nemesis were named CHAMPIONS.

FCSC Nemesis 94 –Washington State 2010 Challenge Cup Gold Division Champions

FCSC Nemesis 94 went into the Challenge Cup Gold Division final four weekend counting their blessings.  The team had to come from behind in the dying minutes in the quarterfinals against Gig Harbor to tie the game and finally win it in penalty kicks after two 15-minute overtimes.

In the semi-final, FCSC Nemesis 94 faced another team from Clark County, Tri-Mountain Synergy.  Both teams played a very tense game as this is as much a rivalry game as it is to get to the championship game.  Synergy scored first and held on to the lead until Kavita Battan had a breakaway goal 30 seconds before the final whistle blew!  Both teams played to a stalemate in the 2 overtimes and they went to penalty kicks to decide the winner.  During the penalty kicks, Kavita Battan, Elisabeth Yankee, Samantha Wilson, and Megan Hoo converted their penalty kicks.  The Nemesis goal keeper, Shiori Baba saved 2 shots to move the team into the championship game against Eastside FC team from Seattle.

In the championship game, FCSC Nemesis employed a 4-5-1 formation to try to slow down a very fast Eastside FC team.  The strategy worked and Nemesis went ahead early in the 1st half with a goal by Kavita Battan.  Eastside got right back into the game with an equalizer off a corner kick 5-minutes later.  Not to be outdone, Nemesis came back strong and scored a second goal before half-time.  The 2nd half was back and forth with amazing stops by Nemesis defenders and midfield players denying Eastside from getting the equalizer they desperately needed.  Towards the end of the game, a big clearance to Katya Moctezuma resulted in the final goal for Nemesis as she maneuvered through the Eastside defense to score.  A very tired Nemesis team held on for the last 10 minutes to emerge as gold division champions.

Head coach Victor Garcette and assistant coach Kevan Battan are very proud of the girls for their performance and for their loyalty to the team and club.  Both coaches were also very thankful for the younger Nemesis 95 girls who helped out as substitutes during this incredible state cup run.

The team now prepares for the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup Regional Tournament in Medford, OR in June, representing Washington state.  The team had also won the Clash At The Border, U18 HS Girls silver division tournament last summer.  The team played in Washington State Premier League Division 1.

The team is Shiori Baba, Kavita Battan, Bianca Caruso, Amy Glasow, Taylor Herseim, Megan Hoo, Khadijah Kirkland, Mecca Krutsinger, Mekennah Lohnes, Katya Moctezuma, Savanna Steed, Moriah Thomas, Jennifer Turkington, Alexandria Villanueva, Samantha Wilson, Elisabeth Yankee.

GU12 - Nemesis 97 Challenge Cup State CHAMPIONS

Girls Nemesis 96 State Champions!

Nemesis 96 Champs

In the soccer world Vancouver has been looked over, well not this year! This past weekend there were several teams representing the Vancouver area for the WSYSA Challenge State Cup semi finals and finals. One of those teams was the FCSC Nemesis 96 GU13 girl’s team. They came to Seattle for one reason, to win the state title, and that they did!

The girls battled through a tough season, training hard all year for the state cup. On Saturday in the Semi finals they faced a tough Emerald City FC team that thought they had the game in the bag. After a quick goal by ECFC, the Nemesis buckled down for a great 3-1 victory. The goals were scored by Megan Bissell, Olivia Haveman, and Shyla Edwards. A great defensive effort led to confusion and frustration for the ECFC team.

On Sunday afternoon the Nemesis faced a great team from Spokane who came from a come back win the day before. The girls were fired up and ready to win the title. The first whistle blew and the game began. It was kind of like an arm wrestling match going back and forth. Nemesis struck first with a great goal by Olivia Haveman, shooting right past the keeper. Spokane came back quick with a great shot outside the eighteen to tie the game. The first half ended in a tie, but the Nemesis girls were not done. The second half proved to be a battle and when the final whistle blew it was still 1-1. The girls were tired, but knew they could do it. The first ten minutes of overtime produced no goals, still tied 1-1. The whistle blew to start the second half of over time, ten minutes to score a goal and hold on. Five minutes into the second overtime, great hustle by our forwards Mckenna Harshbarger and Olivia Haveman produced another goal by Olivia assisted by Megan Bissell. With five minutes to go Spokane went into hustle mode and took many shots to try to tie the game. Nemesis keeper Mari Chopp came up HUGE the last minute of the game as well as our tough as nails defense to preserve the victory. When the final whistle blew, all seventeen members of the Nemesis 96 team rushed the field (as well as their coaches) to celebrate. This was a huge victory for FCSC Nemesis 96 and also a huge victory for Vancouver soccer.

The team is comprised of players scattered around Vancouver, they include: Mari Chopp ©, Rilee Helsel ©, Kelsey Campanelli ©, Megan Bissell, Haley Briggs, Sarah Cash, Shyla Edwards, Meagan Forsman, Sarah Furth, Julia Green, McKenna Harshbarger, Olivia Haveman, Paula Hoover, Madison King, Abbi Ness, Casey Sorenson, and Shelby Yackley. Head coach Katie Tyrrell, assistant coaches Tom Briggs and Jon Bissell. A big thank you also to our team manager Heidi Furth and all the wonderful parents!
